Craig Shield Side win Back to Back titles
Craig Shield Back to Back Premiers
Congratulations to our Craig Shield Side in completing Back to Back Undefeated Premierships with a hard fought win over the Kew Cricket Club in extreme heat at EE Gunn Reserve on Sunday the 28th of January.
In a match reduced to 30 overs per side and starting at 9.30am owing to the heat, Kew batted first and reached 7-123.
Ormond overhauled its target two wickets down after openers Angus Newman (43no) and Jonty Wiseman (34) put on 59.
No 3 Jordan Hesline hit 29, including two sixes.
Opening bowler Tom Oliphant was man of the match for his return of 4-20 off six overs, and Mack Burdett took 3-14 off six.
The victory was the 18th consecutive Craig Shield victory for the club, and our 3rd overall title in the Craig / Hatch Shield (our first being in 2007 with a win over Broadmeadows).
Jordan Hesline was named player of the South Group with an unbelieveable 447 runs at 57.75 (including two centuries) and 17 wickets at 8.47, but was ably assisted with bat by Angus Newman (439 runs @ 56) and Josh Bregazzi (361 runs @ 51).
Declan McComb and Reiley Mark were the pick of the bowlers (along with Jordan Hesline) for the tournament with 10 wickets a piece, with Declan McComb taking an amazing 7/5 off 8 overs in a see to be believed performance against Oakleigh.
The club would like to Thanks the VSDCA and officiating umpires on a well run tournament and final, we would also like to Thank the City of Glen Eira for their Ground Services throughout the tournament as well.
To the parents and supporters, thank you for efforts and support of the players and coaches throughout the campaign.
To Michael Cove, Pat Camm, Spencer Wood and the rest of the support team, a special Thank You for your efforts throughout the winter to get us to this point.
This tournament is special for our club, as it is named after Club Patron and Legend John Craig. Craigy has now had the pleasure of presenting an Ormond Player with Back to Back titles, and I’m sure he would love for this to continue.
